News Update 25/12/2007At the recent South Australian championships, the last state championships of the calendar year, Tony Kart again featured strongly over the race weekend.A standout in the strong Midget field was young Aaron Seton. Aaron was exceptionally fast right throughout the two days of untimed practice and qualified second at the end of the qualifying sessions.
After winning both qualifying heats, Aaron started on pole for the pre-final, which he duly won. Starting from the front row Aaron simply drove away from the field in an exhibition of excellence to
take the flag first and add a well deserved championship to his expanding results resume. Well Done Aaron!In the Rookie field a couple of standouts in the green Rockys were Jordan Lloyd (recent winner of the NSW state championships) and Brock Plumb. Both of these drivers shared good qualifying heat results to put Jordan on grid 1 and Brock on grid 5 for the pre-final.In the final, Jordan started from grid 2 and raced at the front of the field for most of the 21 laps. Unable to break from the pack, Jordan swapped between 1st and 3rd for a very exciting race. Unfortunately for Jordan, he was crashed out of the event at the final turn entering the final straight and did not finish. Jordan being the fine young man he is, held his head high k
nowing what should have been. Brock Plumb ended up a fine 5th place after a difficult start. Well Done boys!In the Leopard Heavy class, new Tony Kart driver, Mark Cowley showed he is enjoying the change to his Tony Kart Racer EVS chassis. Qualifying 4th, he then finished 3rd in heat 1 and 4th in heat 2. After some small changes to his chassis for the pre-final, he showed his true potential by winning the 18 lap pre-final, slowly edging away from his main rivals and setting many fastest laps right to the end.In the final, Mark starting from grid 1, quickly established a comfortable lead when on lap nine, his carburetor began to fail him. Unable to rectify this, he soon dropped back to 3rd place which he held to the end. Another great result, despite his difficulty.
Worth mentioning also in the hotly contested Junior Clubman event was Tony Kart pilot Joel Smith. After poorly managing his qualifying sessions, he set about altering his race plans to put himself in a good position for the final as he knew his Tony Kart Psylo was p
robably the best race chassis out there. Finishing 4th in the pre-final was the change he needed. After a few laps starting from 4th, Joel reached the lead and started to edge away from his pursuers. However, like Mark Cowley in Leopard Heavy, it was not to be. A silly engine problem halted his progress and he eventually fell back to 4th, where he was then an innocent victim of another competitor over driving, ending what might have been. No excuses, just the facts but his Tony Kart Psylo chassis was definitely the class act of the Junior Clubman class.
